. "Examinationg? I never heard such word."
"Well, haven't I as good a right to make a word as any one else?" demanded phil.
"Never mind- s begin faintly to discern clear water ahead where no examination breakers loom.
"시험 집행이라고? 그런 말은 들어본 적 없는데."

"나도 누군가처럼 새로운 말을 만들 권리는 있잖니? 필리파가 말하자 앤이 대꾸했다.

"말은 만드는 게 아니야. 저절로 변해가는 거지."

"아무래도 괜찮아. 시험이라는 거친 파도가 밀려간 뒤의 잔잔한 수면이 눈앞에 희미하게 보이기 시작했거든."

"You've been four of the Jennest, sweetest, good nest girls that ever went together through college, " averred Aunt Jamesina, who never spoiled a compliment by misplaced economy. " Experience teaches sense. You can't fearn et in a college course. You've been to college four years and I never was, but I know heaps more than you do, young ladies."
"너희 네 명은 동급생 중에서도 가장 사랑스럽고 다정하고 착한 아이들이야. 하지만 너희가 분별력이 뛰어나다고 선뜻 말하기는 어렵지. 물론 그런 걸 기대하기에는 무리가 있다고 봐. 경험을 통해배워야 분별력이 쌓이는 법이란다. 대학에서 가르칠 수 없는 노릇이지. 너희는 4년 동안 대학을 다녔고 난 대학 문턱에도 가본 적이 없어. 그러나 내가 너희보다 훨씬 많은 걸 알고 있잖니." 평소 누군가를 추어올리는 법이 없지만 적절한 순간에는 칭찬을 아끼지 않는 제임시나 아주머니가 장담했다.

Thers are lots of things that never go by rule, There's a powerful pile or knowledge that you never get a college, There are heaps of things you never learn out school.
규칙에서 벗어나는 일들이 많고, 대학에서 얻지 못하는 지식도 산더미처럼 존재하며, 학교에서 배우지 못하는 것도 한가득이라네.

Humor is the spicest condiment in the forest of existence, Laugh at your mistakes but learn from them, joke over your troubles but gather strength from them, make a jest of your difficulties but overcome them.
유머는 존재의 향연에서 가장 강한 향신료다. 실수를 웃어 넘기 돼 배울 점을 찾아라. 고생을 농담거리로 삼되 그동안 힘을 얻어라. 어려움을 희롱하되 극복해 내라.

When you're learned to laugh at the things that should be Iaughed at, and not to Iaugh at those that shouldn't you've got wisdom and understanding.
웃어넘겨야 할 건 웃어넘기고 그러지 말아야 할 것에 대해서는 웃지 않는 법을 배웠을 때 지혜와 이해심을 터득할 수 있겠지.

작은 장애물 하나하나는 농담처럼 여기고 큰 장애물 하나하나는 승리의 징조로 여기는 버블 배웠어.

There is so much an fH world for us af if we only have the eyes to see t, and the heart to love it, and the hand to gather it to ourselves - so much in men and women, so much I nut rad literature, so much everywhere an which to delight, and for which to be thankful.
볼 줄 아는 눈만 있다면, 사랑할 줄 아는 마음만 있다면, 모아 쥘 손만 있다면 세상에는 우릴 위한 것들이 너무나 많다. 남자와 여자들 그리고 예술과 문학 분야에도 너무나 많은 것이 있으며, 기뻐하고 감사할 많은 것들이 있다.

"Judging from what you all say, " remarked Aunt Janesina, "the sum and substance is that you can learn - if you've got n atural gumption enough - in four years at college what if swould take about twenty years of liering to teach you. Well, that justifies higher education in my opinion.
너희의 말을 듣고 보니. 타고난 용기가 충분하다면 20년 동안의 삶이 가르쳐주는 것을 대학 생활 4년 만에 깨우칠 수 있겠구나. 고등교육이라는 게 제법 쓸만하다는 생각이 든다. 

"people who haven't natural gumption never learn, " retorted Aunt Janesina, "neither In college not like. If they live to be a hun dred they really dont know any thing more than when they were born, It's then misfortune not their fault, poor souls.
"타고난 용기가 없는 사람은 어떻게 되나요?"  앤이 제임시나 아주머니에게 물었다.

"아무것도 배울 수 없겠지. 대학뿐만 아니라 인생에서도 마찬가지야. 백 살까지 산다고 해도 태어났을 때와 별반 다르지 않을 거다. 그건 불행이지 그들의 잘못이 아냐."

On the old friend's flowers seemed to belong to thas fruition of odd- blossoming hopes which he had once shared.
함께 나누었던 열망이 결실을 맺은 자리에 오랜 친구가 준 꽃 보다 어울릴 만한 것이 있겠는가

Aunt Jamesna had a proper respect for the cloth even a he case of as unfledged person.
풋내기 목사 지망생일지라도 성직자에 대해서는 합당한 존경심을 품고 있었다.
