물론 에이번리에서의 생활도 아주 행복했다, 여름의 태양과 하늘을 즐겼고, 건강하면서도 즐거운 시간을 보내기, 옛 친구들과 우정을 돈독하게 다졌을 뿐만 아니라 더 훌륭하게 살고 더 참을성 있게 일하며 더 마음껏 노는 법을 배웠다.
"모든 교훈을 대학에서만 배우는 건 아니야. 인생은 어디서나 사람들에게 가르침을 주고 있어."

Diana, pleased and embarrassed, got herself away, and poor Anne, after fling by the innocent check iuto her bureau drawer as it it were blood-money, cast herself on her bed and wept years of shame and outraged sensibility. Oh, she could never live this down- never!
다이애나는 기쁨과 당혹감을 갖고 나갔고 가엾은 앤은 죄 없는 수표를 마치 불결한 돈이라도 되듯  세상 속에  내동댕이친 뒤  침대에 몸을 던졌다. 그러고는 북받쳐 오르는 부끄러움을 이기지  못하고 눈물을 흘렸다.
'아, 이 일을 내 인생에서 결코 씻어낼수 없을 거야.'

I loved my poor little story, and I wrote it out of the best that wns in me. And it is sacrilege to have at degraded to the level of a baking powder advertisement.
보잘것없는 작품이지만 난 이 짧은 소설을 사랑했어. 내 안에 있던 최고의 이야기를 쏟아부어서 써낸 거라고 

He said we were never to write a word for a low or msorthy motive, but always to cling to the very highest ideals.
천박하고 무가치한 동기로는 한 글자도 쓰지 말고 항상 최고의 이상을 따라가라고 하셨잖아.

"The Reds will that just as I thought that you, being like nine out of en of us, not overburdened With worldy wealth, had taken this way of earning an honest penny to help yourself through the year. I don't see that there's anything low or unworthy about that, or anything ridiculous either. One work rather write masterpieces of liter ature no doubt _ but mean whate board and tuition fees have to be paid."
This commonsense, mater - of - fact view of the case cheered Anne a little, At least it removed her dread of being laughed at, though the deeper hunt of an outraged ideal remained.
"레드먼드 사람도 나랑 똑같이 생각할걸? 열에 아홉은 분에 넘치도록 부유하지 않은 사람들이니 너도 학업을 이어가기 위해서 정직한 방법으로 돈을 벌었다고 말이야. 그게 천박하고 무가치한 동기는 아니라고 봐. 우스꽝스럽지도 않고. 누구나 이왕이면 걸작을 쓰고 싶어 하지만 한편으로는 하숙비와 수업료도 내야 하잖아."
길버트의 상식적이고 현실적인 의견을 듣자 앤은 마음이 조금 풀렸다, 적어도 비웃음을 살 것이라는 두려움은 사라졌다. 다만 꿈이 망가진 상처는 여전히 깊게 남아있었다.
